「柿タンニン」は分子量約15000の高分子物質で、構造はお茶やワイン、ヒマワリ等と比較しても非常に大きく、タンニンの特性を強く示します。また、含有量もワインの20倍、緑茶の73倍にも達していて、生理活性にも大きく活躍します。
消臭作用は、この柿タンニンに含まれるフェノール性水酸基(-OH基)と各種悪臭成分と化学的に結合し、違う物質（ポリフェノール付加化合物）に変化するためおこります。柿渋タンニンは、他の天然消臭剤と比べ多くの水酸基を持っているため、優れた消臭効果を発揮するのです。
臭いを香りでごまかす芳香剤や脱臭剤と違い、悪臭の元を分解するのです｡また、「柿タンニン」には、微生物抑制効果・強い抗菌作用があることがわかっており、皮膚を保護し、しゅうれん作用と細菌の増殖を抑えることにより、ニオイの元をケアしてくれます。
さらに、柿渋に含まれる「柿タンニン」にはこうした抗菌防臭効果のほかにも特徴があります。それは、肌にやさしく安全だということです。天然植物系なので赤ちゃんのデリケートな肌にも安心して使うことができます。また、「柿タンニン」のもつ天然の自然な消臭効果は精神を安定させ、心身をリラックスさせるなどの効果もあるのです。
